Hair Weaving Facts and How to Take Care of Your Weave

Hair Woes No More!

If you want to reinvent your look, revamping your hair is the answer. There are many ways to play up your look but weaves are a great choice. Weaves are either synthetic or real human hair extensions. They are attached to the hair to add length or volume. Hair weaving, however, is a bit pricey since it has to look natural.

Terms used in hair weaving:

Virgin hair.

This is the type of hair that is cut with the cuticle going in the same direction. A virgin hair is called as such because it is kept in its natural state without the use of chemicals.

Remy hair.

This is similar to virgin hair, with the exception of using chemicals. This hairstyle usually goes with perming or coloring.

Weft extensions.

These hair extensions are held together in fine threads. Machine wefts are sought-after and they are less expensive. But if you want a more natural-looking hair, go for a hand weft.

Pre-bonded hair extensions.

The extensions are bonded to the hair using adhesives like keratin or glue. It is very seamless and discreet, which makes them difficult to see in the hair. But it is the most damaging extensions to hair because of its application.

Tips for taking care of your weaves

1. Apply shampoo once a week – Wash your hair regularly but keep in mind to only apply shampoo once a week to maintain its good condition. Washing the hair every day only dries it out because it prevents the scalp from producing natural oils.

2. Dry the hair completely – Frizz and breakage can be prevented if you “air dry” your weave. When you are in a hurry, you can use a hair blower with a low heat. Avoid using too much heat and squishing it with a towel. The rule of thumb here is to let your hair weave dry completely to avoid having a bad odor.

3. Use quality hair products – Be sure to only use products of premium quality to condition your hair.

4. Sleep with a silk pillowcase – Breakage and frizz are prevented if you sleep on a silk pillowcase. Its smooth surface will only let the hair slide.
